Our Story: How Romaine Valley Was Built

From a quiet piece of land on Romaine Creek Road to a wedding and event venue in Fenton, Missouri, just outside St. Louis. Follow along with how it all came together.

More than a wedding venue

One Property for Weddings and Every Kind of Event

Romaine Valley Weddings & Events sits on a 44-acre property in Fenton, Missouri, in northern Jefferson County just southwest of St. Louis. The chapel, the Grand Hall, the bridal and groom suites and six cottages all share one property, so weddings, showers, birthdays and company events can happen in one place.

It was built by Rob and Michelle, a Southeast Missouri couple who poured their faith, family and hard work into every inch of it. Meet the owners to read their story.

The Romaine Valley Timeline

  1. The Land

Before Romaine Valley, this was a quiet 44-acre property on Romaine Creek Road, zoned for single-family homes.

  2. A Unanimous Yes

The Jefferson County Planning and Zoning Commission voted 5 to 0 to approve the plans for a chapel, a Grand Hall, getting-ready suites and six guest cottages.

  3. Final Approval

The Jefferson County Council gave final approval, rezoning 5 of the 44 acres for the venue. Now the real work could begin.

  4. The Chapel and Cottages Go Up

Construction began on the property, and the chapel and the six guest cottages were the first buildings to take shape, steeple and all.

  5. The Grand Hall Foundation

With the chapel and cottages standing, the work moved to the Grand Hall. Crews set the foundation and laid in-floor heating tubing across the slab before the concrete was poured.

  6. Framing the Grand Hall

Rob, who brings more than 38 years of construction experience, led the build as the Grand Hall walls and tower went up on the new slab.

  7. Building Through the Snow

The work kept going through the winter, with snow on the ground around the chapel and cottages while the Grand Hall was framed in and closed up.

  8. Finishing Touches

Siding, windows and stone went on, and Michelle, with more than 22 years in photography, decorating and design, shaped the look of the interiors, from the bridal suite to the Grand Hall.

  9. The First Wedding

Romaine Valley hosted its very first wedding, and in its first season welcomed dozens of couples to celebrate their big day in Fenton.

  10. Open House and Ribbon Cutting

Neighbors, friends, family and local business owners came out to celebrate the first season and see the venue up close. Read about the open house.
